
Julie Diop
Julie Diop is the Executive Director of MIT’s Initiative for New Manufacturing (INM). Since joining MIT in 2016, a large focus of her work has been on building training programs for technicians and engineers, through online courses, in-person academies, and boot camps. She helped organize a distinguished speaker series, a faculty study group focused on the future of manufacturing, and an annual symposium. Before joining MIT INM, she was Director of the Manufacturing@MIT Working Group, and before that, she was the Executive Director of MIT’s Initiative for Knowledge and Innovation in Manufacturing, which led the Manufacturing USA institute AIM Photonics’ education and workforce development program. Through her projects, she has worked closely with federal and state government agencies, non-profit organizations, community colleges, and partner universities.
Previously, she worked for 13 years at the NPR show On Point, where she closely followed domestic and international affairs and called on experts from around the world.
She completed her BA in math and anthropology from Oberlin College, MBA in finance and entrepreneurship from the University of Chicago, and MA in business journalism from New York University. After completing her MBA, Julie co-founded the MIT spinoff Cambridge Metrology, a semiconductor testing company.
